As the FinTech University webinar series continues, the next edition will examine the metaverse in the one-hour presentation of “FinTech and the Metaverse.” Encompass’ Mallory Acheson will join the chair of the Nelson Mullins FinTech and Regulation Practice, Richard Levin, and attorneys Jason Epstein and Kevin Tran in discussing the metaverse and the legal concerns associated with it. Acheson will primarily focus her presentation on litigation readiness, e-discovery, and privacy implications as they relate to the metaverse.
Acheson will explain elements such as the duty to preserve metaverse-related data; the new and evolving types of data collection, which can be relevant and discoverable and/or subject to privacy laws; the concept of an avatar and how it plays into privacy, jurisdiction, custodian identification; and potential litigation, virtual conduct litigation, and more.
Acheson's practice includes privacy and security compliance, technology transactions, and the intersection of data and electronic discovery issues. Mallory helps clients navigate domestic and internal privacy laws, including CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, TCPA, HIPAA, and GLBA.
