Nelson Mullins and Redgrave LLP to Form Encompass Redgrave, Comprehensive Information and Discovery Law Practice, Largest in the Nation

We previously announced our intent to have the attorneys, directors and advisors from Redgrave LLP join the Encompass practice of Nelson Mullins. As sometimes happens, we later learned of conflict related issues involving key clients of each firm. Given our longstanding relationships with those clients, we have mutually agreed  not to proceed with the transaction.

COLUMBIA, S.C.Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to announce that the attorneys, directors, and advisors from Redgrave LLP will join the firm’s Encompass practice, establishing Encompass Redgrave as the nation’s largest and most comprehensive information and discovery law practice. In this field, both firms already top the market in scale and scope of experience and resources, and the combined team will offer clients unparalleled depth of legal experience along with best-in-class technological capabilities to address the most complex and high-risk litigation, government investigation, and data governance challenges.

“Information is today’s most critical business asset and central to the function of our government and society,” said Jim Lehman, managing partner of Nelson Mullins. “Access to top-tier information law counsel, advocacy, and integrated technological capabilities is essential in today’s complex business environment. Thus, we are excited to welcome the Redgrave team in joining our Encompass e-discovery and information governance practice. The fusion of the complementary talents and strengths of our teams through Encompass Redgrave will provide our clients with a level of experience and service in this area on a scale not available at any other law firm in the country.”

“We are thrilled to join forces with Nelson Mullins and to firmly establish Encompass Redgrave at the intersection of law and technology,” said Jonathan Redgrave, co-founder and managing partner of Redgrave LLP. Redgrave, who is joining Encompass Redgrave as a partner and co-leader of the team, added, “Our firms have long maintained three pillars of excellence that separate us from other e-discovery practices: strategic, enterprise-level legal advocacy, technological innovation, and exceptional client service. Together, we are uniquely positioned to meet the demands of today’s business leaders and their legal counsel.”  Additional partners joining Nelson Mullins on the Encompass Redgrave team are Christine Payne, Christopher King, Vanessa Barsanti, Mathea Bulander, Lisa Lukaszewski, Monica McCarroll, Dan Nichols, and Adam Nodzenski.  Diana Fasching, Staci Kaliner, and Sarah Mahoney will also be joining the team as Managing Directors.

Encompass Redgrave will be co-led by John Martin and Jonathan Redgrave. Martin, who has led the Encompass practice at Nelson Mullins since its inception more than a decade ago, said, “Our bench of highly skilled attorneys and professionals will be truly unrivaled with the addition of our Redgrave colleagues. Together we will leverage the considerable momentum of each team to create a new brand through Encompass Redgrave that will define a unique service tier in our market. Large companies facing serious challenges in e-discovery, privacy, and enterprise information governance will not find a deeper bench or more seasoned team than Encompass Redgrave. That said, we aren’t done.  We know our platform will be attractive to the most legally and technologically adept talent in the market, especially in the areas of e-discovery, information governance, cyber law, and privacy.  We look forward to expanding our team further to address significant challenges facing our clients.”

Among other accomplishments, lawyers joining the Encompass Redgrave team at Nelson Mullins from Redgrave LLP previously held lead roles for e-discovery practices in prior law firms including Jones Day, Kirkland & Ellis, Dentons, Gibson Dunn, Pillsbury, and Williams Mullen.
